January 28, 2018.
It was a new year and I had loftier fitness goals in mind.
I signed up for this race around September last year. I was excited to run a longer trail distance considering that I had an ultra in my sights in the near future. Having run a few trail races last year, I thought I had a vague idea of how this one would pan out. Boy, was I wrong…
Month and a half hiatus is busted and over! I wanted to move into holiday season strong by getting myself into a 21k trail run in the forest! The Compressport Forest Run was held at the La Mesa Nature Reserve about 30 mins away from home! The natures reserve surrounds the La Mesa Reservoir which is a major source of drinking water in Manila. It was gonna be quite the run after a long break!
Another weekend, another race.
GRiT is an all women trail run organized to support Sandi Menchi’s bid to represent The Philippines in TDS: Sur les Traces des Ducs de Savoie, an event that coincides with Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) as one of its side events. TDS is a 119km race with over 7,250m of elevation gain. That’s no small feat for even the hardiest of trail runners!
I, on the other hand, am not experienced enough to even run a full marathon (yet!) but I have enjoyed all the trail runs I’ve gone through thus far! GRiT was no exception and I even made friends! Yay for being amiable!
Went to my 2nd trail run over the weekend and have I mentioned how much fun trail runs are? The Double Terrain Challenge started at Brgy. Cuyambay in Tanay Rizal and went through mud, rivers, and super technical climbs.I opted for the 10k race because I’ve never ran 25k, not even on flat roads. When they said this was a challenge, they weren’t kidding!
After 6 months of road running, I finally joined my first trail run! I had actually been very excited for this because I missed the original first one I was supposed to join due to a scheduling conflict. So much anticipation led up to this wonderful day ahead.Continue reading
