Plantronics Backbeat Run: The 21k’s of Summer

Whew! I was very unsure about this race from the beginning. I put off signing up until the day before the first deadline and even then, I couldn’t decide which distance to run. I was scared of what happened to me in Singapore. I felt so tired and dehydrated from the whole thing that it took me a week to recover from a 10k. A WHOLE WEEK! AHHH! :<

I eventually decided on running 21k because no day like today? (Or yesterday in this case)

One thing I was looking forward to was beating my previous 21k time. SPOILER ALERT: That didn’t happen!

I ran the first 5k without stopping and thought I was well on my way to a better time. The next 10k had a couple of stops for water refills and some inclines but so far so good. By the time I ran 15k, I was starting to feel my lower left calf aching (like sore muscles?) and my tum tums was not feeling that GU lemon sublime energy gel I had earlier at the 13k mark.

The last 6k’s were a big struggle from wanting to run, the aching calf, and bloated tummy. I’m very thankful that I was able to just suck it up, run the last bit, and finish under 3 hours.

There was lots of music and musical guests including DJ Pat Po (aka Uncle Pat lol)! Glad to have been able to say hi before I bounced because OMG my legs were so tired.

Overall, I think I ran decently considering the circumstances. I was really hoping to run faster but there are always future races! Quite thankful it didn’t rain, there was a breeze, and I didn’t see any rats!
