Nat Geo Earth Day Run: 21k and 100% for Mother Earth

This run felt absolutely shitty.

Allow me to explain: I had just come back from a trip that required a long haul flight and I was so scared that I wouldn’t wake up in time for my run because jetlag. I did wake up and got ready to go but on the way I encountered SO. MUCH. TRAFFIC. Welcome back to Manila, Micca. Parking was also a big issue because from the looks of it, there really wasn’t enough for everyone. I was so anxious about not getting there in time that I had a horrible tummy ache and had to use to bathroom. There went all the calories I took this morning 😬

I parked at the very pretty and VERY EXPENSIVE Conrad Hotel (Source: miccadj)

This was my first half marathon ever ever and I don’t think I’ve even walked that for in one day. Or have I? Either way, running 21k was an entirely different story.

The race village! Which I didn’t actually see until after I finished my run (Source: miccadj)

I did not make the gunstart time but they still allowed late runners to proceed. Yay! The one time Filipino Time is on my side??? I started slow but caught up with the middle of the pack but I realized early on that I was overheating. It was so hot and it was in the middle of the night! Gross. I ran out of water way earlier than I expected because I was trying to keep my head cool instead of drinking it. Thank god for water stations.

Micca thoughts at 16km: Alright! 5k more! That’s easy! Woohoo!

Micca thoughts at 17.5km: Huhu so dizzy wtf. Will I still make my 3h cut off? I don’t want to collapse here.

I realized that I probably used up whatever energy I had left and that I was running on fumes. I took the last energy gel I had just to get through. Also, GU Espresso Love flavor tastes like chocolate cake lol

Clearly, not the last you’ll see of me 😛 (Source: miccadj)

Made it under 3h with minutes to spare! Whew! So glad and thankful my body didn’t give out!

Here’s some Fitbit data as always (I’m on Strava too! Heehee :3)

The course was still kinda smelly, puddly, and I saw a baby mouse trying not to get trampled by runners. Good times!

My second half KM splits were absolute shit. Definitely struggled at the end.

I’m so so so glad that I was able to pull through. 2010-2016 Micca would definitely be surprised! I can run 21k instead of drinking 21 shots! Jkjk! Who the hell can drink 21 shots anyway? Craaaayyyyy. Now contemplating another half marathon next month but we’ll see how my legs feel tomorrow first! (I actually ran 21k cause any lower distances didn’t give out the medal LOL)

This run felt absolutely amazing.

Cheers,

Micca
