Kobe Eats: 神戸牛 x 彩り Kobe Beef Red One

“You only eat real Kobe beef once” (Thanks Jess F!) Try saying that real fast three times. #yoerkbo

Brah brah and I arrived in Kobe, Japan determined to have some Kobe beef at the very least even if we had to live on onigiri for the rest of our trip. Once we deposited our bags at our Airbnb, we walked towards Motomachi Station with bright eyes to the sky and still-full wallets in our pockets. The only thing missing was some background music like we were on the quest for the Triforce. Or to get to the Elite Four. Interpret as you will.

HK Eats: 盈福小廚 Fortune Kitchen / 聰嫂私房甜品 Cong Sao Star Dessert

Note: I’d like to apologize that my posts aren’t really in chronological order. Sometimes I have the sudden urge to finish writing and post and sometimes I just suddenly stop because I forgot the witty remark I really wanted to include. Just wanted to let you know in the event that it was all confusing.

Auntie Pearl and I were in for an unexpected food tasting for Christmas dinner.

Every time I come to Hong Kong, Auntie Pearl never fails to suggest a great place to eat. This is why we get along so well! So knowing that I had requested Chinese food, she searched on Open Rice (HK’s version of Yelp and Zomato) for a place with decent reviews and found Fortune Kitchen. I will admit that I was skeptical though cause some places I’ve tried with great reviews were very ho hum and on the other hand, places with okay reviews turned out to be underrated gems. However, Auntie Pearl checks everything thoroughly and I know that she knows that I know she knows her food. Confused? You and I are merely here to learn from the master.

BKK Food/TTD: Midnight Food Tour by Tuk Tuk  Part 3 of 3

Our last destination and meal for the night is considered by many as Bangkok’s best pad thai restaurant. By the time we got there, everyone looked quite tired since it was already 1130pm. Our stomachs were also slightly sticking out compared to when we started. Just slightly.

BKK Food/TTD: Midnight Food Tour by Tuk Tuk  Part 2 of 3

Needing to digest the 2 meals we had already eaten, we went to the biggest flower market in Bangkok to walk around and explore. Phang told us that while the market was open basically 24/7, it gets a lot livelier at night. Camera out and careful of my bag, we set foot towards the light and all the flora.

BKK Food/TTD: Midnight Food Tour by Tuk Tuk  Part 1 of 3

Since I only had some 60 hours in Bangkok, I decided to make the most out of it. I signed myself up for the Midnight Food Tour by Tuk Tuk which is operated by Bangkok Food Tours. Well, my parents didn’t want me to go alone since it would end at midnight and Southeast Asia, connect the dots. Right. So my wonderful reverse offspring came along with me.

We met up with our guide, Phang at Chit Lom BTS station situated at the central walkway just above Erawan Shrine. She gave us a map of our itinerary and it looked like we were really gonna be going around Bangkok. No two places were too near each other which I thought was a great way to experience riding a tuk tuk! All in all there were 15 of us: a French couple, a German couple, 2 guys from London, 6 girls from the Philippines (Hi!), and my parents plus I. After introducing ourselves we made our way to the tuk tuks parked below. Our tuk tuk driver introduced himself as M and Papa dJ just kept calling him 007. Such a dad 😛
