MNL Drinks: LIT

This is THE place for Japanese whiskey (or whisky if you prefer to spell it that way)! LIT is located in Serendra right smack between Power Books and Larry’s. One could even mistake the red umbrellas to be a part of their al fresco area. LIT itself is smaller than I expected it to be but they definitely make use of the space as much as possible.

I believe LIT has the widest selection of Japanese whiskey in Manila and it’s all there for you! Unless they run out of stock that is. The most popular Japanese whiskeys include those from the Suntory brand (Yamazaki, Hakushu, Hibiki, etc) and the Nikka brand (Yoichi, Taketsuru, Miyagikyo, etc). They also have the harder to find bottles on hand like the Distiller’s Reserves, Coffey Grain, and older bottles as well. These can all be served neat, on the rocks, or even as a highball if you specify. They have two kinds of pours: the taste (literally a taste) and the experience which is more of a shot. Along with those, they have a selection of whiskey flights that allow you to try 4 different whiskeys at a time. LIT also has a variety of beers and cocktails (try the Manila Old Fashioned!) for those who don’t really enjoy whiskey but still want to hang out there. There are some small bites but I believe they stop serving food after 10pm.

Let’s now talk about the ice they have one hand. Beautiful, clear cut ice, perfect for the slow melt needed to enjoy whiskey. They way they cut the ice is so delicate, using only a a small knife which I think is easier to control versus an ice pick. You know Francis and his team really know about ice and the way it’s supposed to be which shows how they care about the products they serve. This way people can truly enjoy the taste of whiskey at its finest.

Speaking of Francis and his team, they take really great care of their customers. They try to accommodate everyone who comes in and work as efficient as possible to serve everyone in a timely manner. The first time I visited LIT, I had to use the bathroom (which is outside by the way) and Francis had taken away my highball because the ice had already melted enough to dilute the drink. This was with the intention of replacing the drink completely free. I politely declined saying that I had to drive but this really left me with a good impression of the whole team. All of them were also willing to talk to us even if they were busy which is a great sign of customer service.

Definitely coming back to LIT when I get the chance! I wish I had more friends to enjoy whiskey with but I guess I’ll have to drag the others with the lure of beer, cocktails, and an amazing bar.
