The place considered to have the best coffee in the metro has a special place in my overly caffeinated heart. When I’m in the area, I try to come to Yardstick as much as possible since I don’t live that near. Always such a treat! Local roasters for the win!
I just discovered my newest comfort food place (that isn’t Jollibee) courtesy of my dad! We were driving to the south for a round of golf and stopped for lunch at Paseo de Magallanes along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX). He gave me a choice of Pancake House (basically our local IHOP) or Dayrit’s. I picked the later because Lord knows I spent too much time at Pancake House during high school. Continue reading
Visiting Manila? Living in Manila? If you could really only take 1 tour, I would recommend catching Carlos Celdran’s Walk This Way tour of Intramuros.
Some background first: Carlos Celdran first pinged on my radar in 2010 during the famous (or infamous?) Damaso incident at the Manila Cathedral. This is how I learned that he was one of the biggest proponents for the Philippine Reproductive Health Bill (now a Law whut whut!) being passed and therefore a personal hero of mine. Long story short, Carlos told the Philippine Catholic church to stop getting involved in politics, religious feelings were hurt, and he was convicted and sentenced to jail for a while. You can look it up on the internet for more details. #ProRH
On a gloomy Monday night we met up for dinner with one of my many cousins who now lives in Hong Kong. We ventured to Sai Ying Pun on the MTR for the first time since it opened (for the record, we were in Hong Kong when it opened but could not be bothered with the crowds) and the new stations are so nice and modern! The turnstiles and ticket machines are so streamlined! It was quite a beautiful sight. This also ensures that property prices in the area have skyrocketed. *cries*
Marcia Adams’ is semi hidden inside Tagaytay (okay, technically Alfonso but what do I know) past a lot of the places that I’ve usually stopped at. You just turn right on Sikat Rd (Right after the Residence Inn on your left) from Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway and it’s just a few hundred feet on your left. Well, yea, I’ve never heard of that street either so be smart (unlike me) and Waze it. For some strange reason this works better with Smart’s cell reception than Globe’s but they both suck because it’s a duopoly. Parking is tight and so is the street. Good luck.
My brother and I really enjoy meeting up with our godparents who live in Hong Kong when we get the chance to visit. We all live in different places so I don’t think there’s a better way than to reconnect in Hong Kong over food, specifically yam cha (飲茶)!
Throwback review to when I lived in California!
Barclay’s has a very good selection of beers on a rotating tap. They have about 20 different ones every 2-3 weeks . A good thing to do is join the beer tasting club! There are rewards once you hit a certain number of beers tasted. You can order a full pint, a half pint, or a shot to taste.
